Porn Industry Chooses HD-DVD

It ain’t over until Jenna Jameson screams.

Just last night History channel had a special on tech of the 1980s and talked about how when the adult industry chose VHS over Betamax, that sealed the fate of the Sony’s Betamax format. And now in the format wars for the next-generation of DVD:

"Blu-ray has superior quality, yes," said a spokesperson for porn studio Bangbros, "but HD DVD is easier to produce, cheaper to produce and there are more HD DVD players in homes than there are Blu-ray players, for example in the Xbox 360."

Got to love it when they get it wrong “for example in the Xbox 360”. Xbox 360 features a Dual Layer DVD drive, so nothing like HD DVD. To get HD DVD support on Xbox 360 people have to invest in a separate drive.
Not sure if it is true, I also read that Sony does not want to see porn on Blu Ray, if so then I would expect it to be the death of Blu Ray. Only time will tell what happens.

I think consumers are going to be very bitter after re-buying all of their media in VHS, then CD, then DVD and now Blu-Ray/HD-DVD or even online DRM-crippled download.

Well, who said you have to re-buy it 🙂 I mean, you have the VHS, sure you can still use that… Same with the Cd and DVD.
Of course you might run into a problem if you buy a screen of some kind that don’t take input from the old device but I think that is something that happens seldom.
But I do see your point of view anyway. Regarding Blu-ray vs HD-DVD (ignoring people who wants to watch port, guess they have to go with HD-DVD), what should people invest in? Should they go for one of the other format, what is the best for them… For many I guess it comes down to the speech the sales person in the store can give them and how convincing it is.
