Aug 8: Shut Up and Write! (Free)

Everybody I know has writing they need to be doing. For me it is a massive amount of course content to write, another book proposal and maybe some freewriting around the coming year. And so it is time for another writing integrity day.
Here’s how it works:

  1. We all get on the phone at 10am Eastern/New York time.
  2. Everyone takes 10 seconds (no more!) to say what they are going to work on for the next hour.
  3. Hang up.
  4. Write like hell.
  5. Get back on the phone the next hour and do it again.
  6. Rinse and repeat until 5pm.

Dial-in number is 781 222 0034 extension 834.
Start something, finish something, program blog posts, write a novel, outline a book, write a course just SHUT UP AND WRITE. Lunch hour as needed or go ahead and have a carry-out/delivery menu from your favorite restaurant at the ready.
I hope you’ll join us.

I know this is for writing, but my “writing” is sometimes “recording” in audio or video, such as doing multi-media curriculums, commercials, etc., as well as overdue blog posts and articles. Can I still attend? Lord knows I need the accountability to stay with it for a full day!

    Of course, of course!

Dear Andy, thanx for this great idea. I’m in the netherlands, so I will not be calling in to the states. But I wanted to let you know that I’m organizing a Dutch ‘writing integrity day’ parallel to your day!! I hope people ‘show up’. If you want I’ll let you know how it went. Wouldn’t it be cool to have that go worldwide her her?
    Regards, Sanne

I’m there. And like Penny, instead of writing, I’ll be recording. What an awesome idea Andy.

Love the intensity of this writing day! I have about 90% excitement and 10% fear going for me, or is it 90% fear and 10% excitement? That’s just it, the not knowing is what makes it so intense! 7 hours of writing . . . I’m there, man!

Thank you Andy. I am very excited this will get me to begin. I have been procastinating for ever.I am looking forward to this. I have blocked the day to write. I don’t know what I will write. I am looking forward to what will come out. THANK YOU. PEACE.

I’m with Chipo, a “pro” @ “crastination.” I’ve been “working on two books” since the early 1980’s; now that I’m retired they’re working on me! Can hardly wait ’til Tuesday evening.

Awesome idea and motivation! I’m game and will be writing tomorrow!!! Thanks for the nudge to get this done.

Andy, are you doing this again any time soon? It’s a fabulous idea, but we’re leaving for the Alps on vacation in the morning – and I haven’t been able to come up with a good enough reason for us to delay the trip! (I thought about loosening the spark plug wires from the car, but decided that was too obvious…) Anybody else got any creative ideas?

Andy, what a brilliant idea! Thanks for making your writing calls free to your fans. While I will need to head into work for much of the day tomorrow just reading your challenge has given me the extra push I need to get up early and tackle my next “15 Minute Advantage” podcast.
By the way, your book, “Blogwild” motivated me to put up a blog for our show notes, links and resources. The book and the blog were very small investments that have already paid for themselves many times over. Thanks a million!

It’s 3:13 pm Pacific Time on Tuesday, August 8.
I just finished Andy’s “Shut Up and Write” Integrity Day.
I never knew I could write all day long and not want to kill myself at some point along the way. It was so much fun, and I got a lot accomplished, more than I anticipated.
Plus, I learned what works and what doesn’t work for me when it comes to writing for long stretches of time. During moments (lots of moments) of frustration, when it just wasn’t flowing, it was great to know that at the top of the hour I could check in with someone who would make me laugh, or at least listen to me complain.
As Andy told me, “It’s just a book!”
This was a motivating, “can-do”kind of day. Thanks, Andy! I’ll make sure to give you a nod in the acknowledgments of my book.

Wow! What a productive writing day. I have the hardest time sitting down and writing but knowing that I’m going to check-in with others who are doing the same thing makes a big difference. Write on!

Missed it 🙁 but I thought it was a fab idea and I’m going to encourage my readers to do something similar this side of the pond !! I’ll tell them who’s idea it was of course ! 🙂

Scribble, scribble, write, write and voila! We added huge chunks to our respective writing projects, shared a peek at our neighbors projects and processes, and more than one of our little band of scribes, including me, broke through one of those ugly BLOCKS that we writers bang our brains against. Thank you for shutting us up, sitting us down, and giving us the impetus to WRITE. Exellent experience.

Once you’ve written that book, you might take a look at my book, “Publish It Yourself, Five Easy Steps to Getting Your Book In Print.”
I’ve proven it works as I’ve sold more than 70,000 copies of my first book, “Little Known Tales in California History.”
