Freelancing Fun: What Part of “No” Don’t You Understand?

Attention Freelancers: This is a must-read. Samuel over at Wake Up Later blogged about the “10 Absolute “Nos!” for Freelancers”. My favorite is #6 — “I have a great idea. Do you want to…?” I bet you wish you had a dollar for every prospect who approached you with that line. There are a lot of potentially scary clients out there – so steer clear of them by reading this list and taking the tips to heart.
It’s important to be clear on who you want to work with, and perhaps more importantly, who you want to BE (as a person and as a business professional) when you work with others.
Don’t sell yourself short, don’t work for less than you’re worth, and try to associate with others who share similar values — these folks make for the best clients. Good clients are a blessing and make all the difference in the quality of YOUR life. (I’m sure my fellow freelancers would agree.)
You chose the life of a freelancer for a reason. And, one reason was certainly NOT to work for people who are needy, takers, selfish, or who always want something for free or at your expense. Remember, you’re running a business, not a charity.
Do you have any more “Nos” to add to the list? If so, we’d love to hear them.
