Bloggers, Developers, Podcasters: Expos, Conferences, and Meetups Around the World

It’s time to step away from the computer and get out of the house to enjoy some fresh air and socializing with fellow bloggers from around the world. Our friends over at Mashable: Social Networking News have assembled an awesome list of real-world events where we can network with people who love the online world as much as we do.
So why should we take a break and step away from the computer for a while? Here are some things to think about:
1. Rest and relaxation. It’s stressful to sit in front of a computer, day after day, tied to a headset, screen, and keyboard. I know – I run a virtual coaching, consulting, and training business. We all need to take a break, from time to time, to turn our attention to other things that aren’t work-related.
2. Interface with real people. This isn’t to say that folks on the internet aren’t real – they are. But, it’s important to hang out with 3-dimensional human constructs every once in a while.
3. It opens you up to new ideas. We need to be infused with new sights, sounds, ideas, and most importantly, other people. Humans are social connectors. Life without other people is well … not really life. Let’s enjoy our fellow human beings. We have a lot we can share with them and vice versa. Don’t be the best kept secret in town — let other people know who you are and what you do.
So when you’re looking for your next live event, you might consider some of these events.
1. Blog World and New Media Expo. You’re really going to have to hurry to get in on this one. Long-time friend and business acquaintance, Andy Wibbels, will be taking off for the airport in a few hours to be a speaker at this conference.
Featuring the best-of-the-best speakers from around the world, it’s not to be missed if you can buy that ticket to Vegas in the next couple of hours.
2. For the many female bloggers out in the blogosphere, there’s the Blogher Conferences.
3. And, for our fellow European bloggers and media experts, we have the annual BlogTalk conferences. The 2008 conference is going to be held in Cork, Ireland.
There are a lot more events detailed on Mashable including BarCamp, Gnomedex, the International Conference on Weblogs and Social Media, New Media Expo, Podcamp and many others. There’s something for everybody. Consider attending one of these events – work it into a vacation, meet some new people, and make some new connections. You’ll be happy you did.
