1000 True Fans

Brian points to Kevin's post about having one thousand fans willing to pay you: "A creator, such as an artist, musician, photographer, craftsperson, performer, animator, designer, videomaker, or author - in other words, anyone producing works of art - needs to acquire only 1,000 True Fans to make a living. A True Fan is defined as someone who will purchase anything and everything you produce." I think the huge learning here is that you can longer afford to not be a savvy self-promoter. You must cultivate a following. You have to be distinctive. You have to be passionate and you have to stand out. You can't be a mealy-mouthed pusillanimous pantywaist whiner anymore if you want to be successful.

I've always envied guys like you, John Jantsch and others. People who are able to take a great idea and turn it into a marketable proposition. Honestly, I don't think that ability is in my DNA.

Also, talking about "distinctive," you've got that down pat.

    Interesting conjunction, Andy.

    I'm a fan of yours.

How many would you estimate you have?

Guess I better start counting mine!

    Not to mention recruiting 'em!
