Print Executives Shrug Blogs

Print execs shrug off impact of blogs: A curious thing happened at the opening session of the Editor & Publisher/Mediaweek Interactive Media Conference. Many speakers attending the session on journalism and blogging (yes, another one!) made light of the blogosphere. They used “scatological references that played on the world blog,” the Editor & Publisher Web site reported.

“Frat boy humor is one way to conceal the mainstream media’s nervousness about the exploding popularity of blogs,”

added the article’s writer, Jennifer Saba. She quoted Ken Sands, online publisher of the Spokesman-Review in Spokane, Wash. Talking about the competition for readers that is coming from Web loggers. He said,

“We’re not in control and we don’t know it yet.”
