Did anybody else catch that special (PBS? Discovery?) about the Bonobo monkeys (with whom we – and chimpanzees – share 98% of our DNA)? It was fascinating how sexual activity is a common social adhesive in these primate communities. A female bonobo was traveling several feet and stopped by for a quick 10 second hump with a male counterpart. I had this discussion with Sandee’s husband on the way home from my talk out in the burbs – about the biological underpinnings of same-sex sexual activity.,
Because societies like the Bonobos are matriarchal and everyone screws everyone – the males don’t know whose offspring belongs to who – so they protect everybody – it distributes the paternal instinct. Same-sex sexual activity between males in a social hierarchy solidify bonds between animals – and means there’s less hetero animals competing for attention with the females – so there’s more male animals to hunt, defend and food gather. Yup. The homos are the warriors, y’all. And the female same-sex activity is important because we all know lesbians are more organized than anybody.
And yes, I’m resisting making a joke about Furries.
