WordPress Goes Head to Head with TypePad

The big news from the weekend is that the free open-source blog tool WordPress is going to compete directly with TypePad by offering hosted blogs over at WordPress.com Other companies have done similar offerings but this is an effort direct from the developers of WordPress. I'm curious to see how things pan out since WordPress has a more complex templating engine and to see if they learn from the initial problems TypePad had with slow servers and what kind of tech support backend they'll be building.
